DESCRIPTION

IMPORTANT CAMP INFORMATION: 

  • Fun and educational gymnastics camp for boys ages 8-18. Stay overnight, as a resident camper(ages 10* and up) or commute to camp each day. *Must turn 10 before camp begins.

  • Elite coaching staff includes both Head and Assistant Coaches of the University of Minnesota Men's Gymnastics Team, Mike Burns and Kostya Kolesnikov.

  • Camp is held on the University of Minnesota's campus. Training will be held at Cooke Hall, the training site of 3-time Olympian John Roethlisberger and 2006 World Championship Team Members Guillermo Alvarez and Clay Strother as well as the Golden Gophers Men's Gymnastics Team!

  • Resident gymnasts will stay in the University of Minnesota dormitories on campus. Live-in counselors and camp instructors provide 24-hour supervision.

  • Resident Tuition: $615 Includes all meals, room and board and 3 workouts per day, t-shirt and pool outing.

  • Commuter Tuition: $485 Includes 6 meals, 3 workouts per day (from 8:30am-8:00pm), t-shirt and pool outing.

  • Professional athletic trainer on duty at all workouts.

Frequently Asked Questions that have not been covered in the camp brochure:

 

Q: How shall I send my child’s medications?

A:  If your child has any medications, we ask that you download and fill out the attached medication form below.  Please include a completed medication form in a Ziploc bag with your child’s medication.  Bring the Ziploc bag with form and medication to the camp administrators or athletic trainer on the first day of camp.

 

Q:  Where do Commuter’s meet on the first day of camp? And where do I drop off/ pick up my son each day?

Commuter campers should meet at Cooke Hall at the assigned times.  A full weekly schedule and registration information will be emailed to each camper.  For sample schedule please go to our website: www.mgtcgymnastics.com. and click on Daily Schedules.  Resident campers will need to check-in at the dormitory (we send this information to you in an email) before the first workout. 

Anyone who will have the responsibility of dropping off or picking up a child(ren) should attend the first few minutes of the first day of camp.  We will hold a parent orientation at the beginning of the first day of camp.  The orientation will include a walk-through of where to safely drop-off and pick-up campers, and other pertinent information.  If you have been to our camp in the past few years there are not many, if any, changes to the drop off and pick up locations or times.

 

Q:  Are breakfast and dinner included in the Commuter fee? 

Session 1 & 2:

Breakfast is not included in the commuter tuition.  Lunch and Dinner are included in the commuter fee.  All campers must eat with the group at the assigned meal times.  Children may sit separately from other if they have severe food allergies.

 

Q:  What’s available at meal times?

Often the dorms and dining halls are under construction or closed during the summer and the University is unable to accommodate our campers during the week of our camps.  We employ a catering service that is used periodically by the University of MN Men’s gymnastics program.  The meals are simple, fresh and healthy and the coaches and guys on the team say they are great.  If your child has any food allergies, please let us know so we can have the proper food for them.  We offer a nut-free table for those with any nut allergies.  Any vegetarian requests must be clearly communicated.

 

Q:  What will the campers do during the evening activity?

Gymnasts will be given the opportunity to decide which new skills they would like to work on during this open practice time.  Coaches will be available to help teach and spot new and improving skills.

Some other fun and educational evening activities may include:  contests and games, mini-clinics to work on gymnastics techniques, and more.  We also plan other exciting events such as a spectacular gymnastics demonstration from the Golden Gophers Men’s Squad and an always popular pool outing.  We hire lifeguards and the boys and coaches always have a blast at the pool outing.  There is a swimming test that the kids must pass in order to use the diving boards.  Some kids have brought life jackets to use during this event.

 

Q:  What will the boys do from lunch-1:15pm (after lunch)?

A:  The commuters will be escorted to the air-conditioned dorms for some “down time” after lunch.  There will be games available such as ping-pong, foos-ball, and billiards in the recreation room of the dorms.  There is an outdoor basketball court for pick-up games and a piano room that proved to be very popular in years past.  There is also a television in the recreation room of the dorms.  Resident gymnasts will be allowed to spend some or all of this time in their dorm rooms.

 

Q:  Should I send snacks with my son?

Yes, snacks are a good idea.  Note: if you send a reusable water bottle please mark clearly with your child’s name.

 

Q:  Are Cell Phones allowed?

Yes, however…. We strongly encourage you to require your child to talk to a counselor before calling home.  A camp counselor is going to be able to better help your child than you will be able to after 10pm and before 7am.  Talking with a counselor and asking for help builds life skills in your child and helps them to grow as individuals.

 

Q:  What if my son loses his room key?

There is a charge to replace lost/stolen keys.  You will be responsible for paying for a new key and/or meal card.  The cost to replace a key is $40-$60. 

 

Q:  What if there are damages or excess mess in my son’s room upon checkout?

Upon dropping off and picking up your son, we recommend that you go into his room and check for any damages or excess mess.  You will have the opportunity upon pick-up to have your son clean the room (if needed) in order to deter any extra charges.  We recommend that you take before and after pictures of your child's room for your records.  Several times (2) the University has charged campers extra fees for cleaning or putting beds back together.  The charges are quite high due to the labor union charges.  Please review dorm rules and policies document below.
