July 16-20 are the dates for our 2016 Nevada Altitude Cross Country Camp for Middle and High School runners. Be challenged to learn and focus on the skills needed to become the athlete you envision while running at altitude like the pros do in the amazing Sierra Nevada Mountains around Lake Tahoe.
Campers train under national class coaches at this fabulous, fun-packed adventure. The Nevada Altitude Camp has limited enrollment to ensure that each camper receives individual attention, unlike other camps that have literally hundreds of campers. Our camp is limited to a total of 60 boys and girls.
STAFF
The camp staff is tremendous and includes:
Dave Emmans, 2013 National HS Coach of the Year (XCNATION.COM), coach of the Girls 2013 NXN National Champion Wayzata HS (MN) squad, and
Bill Gregg, coach of the boys and girls at California powerhouse Davis HS, who has had his squads qualify and place at NXN, most recently his girls who finished second in 2015, and
Nevada coach Kirk Elias, a four-time Division I Conference Coach of the Year, having coached for over 30 years at the Division I level, including a five-time World Championship performer for the USA.
CAMP COUNSELORS
All are current or former collegiate cross country athletes.
FOCUS
The emphasis at the Nevada Altitude Camp is on learning, including topics of Nutrition, Sports Psych, Training Theory, Race Strategy, and NCAA eligibility and recruiting rules.
TRAINING
Each athlete’s program is individualized so that no one over-trains. The training experience is AWESOME, with trail runs that include time on the Tahoe Rim Trail at 8700 feet (2500 feet above Lake Tahoe). Two of the days, after morning runs, campers will get to spend time on a beach enjoying Lake Tahoe. The vast majority of your running while at camp will be on trails.
We will spend time on technique so that each camper has specific elements upon which to work when home.
HOUSING
Campers will be housed in one of the dorms on the University of Nevada campus.
THINKING ABOUT RUNNING IN COLLEGE?
Summer cross country camp is a great opportunity for you to learn to become a better athlete. It is also a great opportunity to learn more about what it means to be a collegiate athlete AND for college programs to learn more about you!
As mentioned previously, there will also be a session on NCAA Eligibility and Recruiting rules to help you have a better understanding of what to expect if you wish to run in college.
NEVADA AND THE MOUNTAIN WEST
Nevada is a Tier I academic institution (top 10% of US universities according to US News and World Report) and is a member of the Mountain West Conference, which has become the BEST Division I conference for female distance runners. Typically, coaches and athletes think of the PAC-12 and Big 10 as the two dominant conferences for women’s distance running. At the 2015 NCAA Division I National Championships the PAC-10 and Big 10 each had three finishers in the top 25. The Mountain West had EIGHT in the top 25!!! With three of those being freshmen or sophomores in the top 10, the Mountain West is positioned to be the best conference for years to come!
PRICE
$675 is the early registration price through May 31st. After May 31st the price is $735. A $50 discount off of either price is available for two or more campers from one school. Included in the price are instruction, room, all meals starting with dinner on Saturday, July 16th and ending with brunch on Wednesday, July 20th, snacks and one T-Shirt.
DISCOUNT
A $50 discount/camper will be given when two or more campers register who are from the same high school. Email me (kdelias@unr.edu) for the Promo Code to get the $50 discount if there will be at least two registering from your high school.
IF TRAVELING BY AIR
Camp staff will pick up arriving campers from the Reno-Tahoe International Airport. Campers will be dropped off by camp staff after the camp concludes. Email me (kdelias@unr.edu) with flight details so timely arrangements can be made. I would recommend arrival prior to 1:00pm on Saturday, July 16th and a flight departure after 1:30pm on Wednesday, July 20th.
